Committee suggestion in Valley View
The Supplemental School Revenue Committee in Valley View agreed on a proposal for replacing lost income to the Cuyahoga Heights Schools caused by the move of Safeguard Properties. The agreement, which will be presented to Village Council, calls for sharing income taxes collected from the company.

Section 205 Flood Risk Management Studies
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is conducting $100,000 Flood Risk Management Studies for the Cuyahoga River valley communities of Brooklyn Heights, Independence, Valley View, and Walton Hills. Congressman Kucinich said that the studies will create a better understanding of the causes of flooding and approaches to flood risk mitigation.

Plans have bogged down for a $25 million retail/office complex at Tuxedo Avenue and Granger Road in Brooklyn Heights, but Mayor Procuk said that the "deal is not dead in the water."

Valley View adopts tax incentive
Valley View Village Council approved a tax break for a company it hopes will move from Brooklyn Heights. Mayor Procuk of Brooklyn Heights appears to have dropped his objections.

Update: Mayor Procuk said he has "cooled down a bit".

Valley View accused of violating non-poaching agreement
The mayor of Brooklyn Heights accused the mayor of Valley View of stealing a business by offering the company a tax break to relocate to Valley View. The Cuyahoga County Mayors and City Managers Association approved a nonbinding no-poaching resolution in 2006. Valley View Village Council is scheduled to vote on the incentives on Tuesday.

Update: a Plain Dealer editorial encourages the public and local leaders to pressure Valley View officials to drop their plans.

Changes in Brooklyn Heights retail plans
The developers of the proposed retail and office project and at Tuxedo Avenue and Granger Road in Brooklyn Heights have modified their plans to include two office buildings instead of one. They are still seeking tenants for the development.

West Creek Confluence Project
Work on the West Creek Confluence Project in Independence is scheduled to begin this summer, and the restoration of the site should be completed by 2010. The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District is also involved in several related projects in Parma and Brooklyn Heights.

Brooklyn Heights trail funding
The West Creek Preservation Committee and the Village of Brooklyn Heights are working to gather funding for a trail that will head east out of the Village Park. The trail will form part of the planned West Creek Greenway.

Liquor referendum likely
Developers of the proposed retail center at Granger Road and Tuxedo Avenue collected enough signatures for a liquor referendum and are preparing to file the petitions with the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. If the Board of Elections approves the petitions, the issue will appear on the March 4 ballot in Brooklyn Heights.

Trail construction update
Construction of the Lake to Lake Trail in Middleburg Heights has begun, and it should be finished in November 2008. The Cleveland Metroparks project will connect Lake Isaac and Lake Abram. In Brooklyn Heights, the Eagle Glen Connector Bridge in the Village Park was installed. It eventually will be part of a trail linking Brooklyn Heights to the Towpath Trail. In Seven Hills, a new mile-long trail behind City Hall opened to the public.

Brooklyn Heights selects contractor
The Village of Brooklyn Heights will hire Nerone & Sons of Warrensville Heights to build the Eagle Glen Connector Bridge and Hiking Trail for $174,700. Construction of the bridge is scheduled to begin in October.

Eagle Glen Connector Bridge and Hiking Trail
The Village of Brooklyn Heights is soliciting bids for the construction of the Eagle Glen Connector Bridge and Hiking Trail over West Creek. It will connect the Village Park to Seven Hills and eventually with the Towpath Trail.
