The Greenspace Working Group (GWG) was a 50-member stakeholder group that convened from 1999 to 2002. Its membership included local and regional park people, urban garden managers, civic group representatives, business and real estate representatives and public officials. During the planning process the group assisted the Cuyahoga County Planning Commission in studying, establishing goals, and making recommendations on greenspace issues, including those related to financing, legislation, and community strategies.

Greenspace Infrastructure Group

The County Planning Commission is continuing its efforts to enhance and maintain green infrastructure in Cuyahoga County in part through the Green Infrastructure Group, a collaborative effort with staff from Cleveland Metroparks, Cuyahoga Remedial Action Plan, Cuyahoga Soil and Water Conservation District, and the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District. Green infrastructure is comprised of a network of parks, greenways and other naturally vegetated areas that enhance and maintain the overall health of our region. The purpose of the Green Infrastructure Group is to identify, collaborate and coordinate efforts on programs and projects within Cuyahoga County that serve to grow, enhance and/or maintain green infrastructure.

The goals of this Green Infrastructure Group include: the promotion of sustainable land use practices through conservation and restoration, the promotion of the conservation and restoration of our watersheds and the stewardship of natural resources through education and demonstration projects. This group formed to assist communities in understanding the value of natural systems as well as protecting and/or enhancing natural resources as amenities for the overall quality of life of the residents of Cuyahoga County.
