STUDY AREA
The extent of the geographic area studied in the ODOT 12 MIS encompassed only the
communities in Cuyahoga and Medina County that are directly contiguous to I-71. The 1996 MIS report included information
about population, employment and developed land in these communities. However, a portion of the study area was
outside of the "cordon" area used in NOACA's travel demand model, so the land use analysis was limited to only
six communities:
Brunswick
Hinckley Township
North Royalton
|
Brunswick Hills Township
Strongsville
Middleburg Heights
|
Hence, the entire land use impact analysis consisted of three paragraphs reviewing the number of
households and work trips generated in each of these communities. Since these communities have been the
fastest growing in Cuyahoga and Medina Counties the stated conclusion was that households and work trips have
increased and based on projections, would continue to do so.
In this land use impact analysis, the geographic extent has been expanded and divided into
primary and secondary impact areas (Map 1-1). The primary area consists of the ODOT 12 MIS communities, which is
the area generating the largest number of trips on I-71. The secondary impact area is defined as largely undeveloped
communities which will be affected by the increased capacity provided by transportation and other elements, based
on historical suburbanization patterns.
