Cuyahoga Valley Initiative
The Cuyahoga Valley Initiative seeks to influence development patterns, construction practices
and industrial processes for the next generation using a sustainable development approach based
on the integration of economic, social and ecological systems.
Towpath Trail Extension
Plans have been completed for building the final segment of the Towpath Trail in Cuyahoga
County from old Harvard Avenue to downtown Cleveland and the Lakefront.
Cuyahoga County Greenspace Plan
The Cuyahoga County Planning Commission, assisted by the Greenspace Working Group, is in
the midst of developing a plan aimed at preserving the county's greenspace as well as enhancing
and increasing what exists.
Whiskey Island
Whiskey Island, home to Wendy Park and Whiskey Island Marina, is the only place in Cleveland
with direct access to Lake Erie and the Cuyahoga River. Learn more about this important symbol of

Cleveland, walk along the beach, play sand volleyball, and watch the birds that rest before or
after their trip across Lake Erie.
District One Public Works Integrating Committee (DOPWIC)
The DOPWIC oversees implementation of the State Capital Improvement Program (Issue 2) in Cuyahoga
County. The Issue 2 program provides financing for capital infrastructure projects: bridges,
roads, sewers, water supply and solid waste. The DOPWIC evaluates and selects projects for
financial assistance. Available assistance: $21 million annually.
Cuyahoga County Natural Resources Assistance Council (NRAC)
The NRAC, appointed by the DOPWIC, is responsible for implementing the Clean Ohio Conservation
Program in Cuyahoga County. These responsibilities include: promoting the development and
improvement of open space and protecting and enhancing riparian corridors and watersheds; and
evaluating and selecting projects for financial assistance. Available assistance:
$3.6 million for years 2001-2004.
Work Access & Transportation Program
The Work Access & Transportation Program provides van pool service to outlying job areas
for low-income individuals and those transitioning from welfare to work.
