How WATP Works

Mid-size vans are used to make scheduled pick-ups at RTA transit centers, Cuyahoga County Neighborhood Family Service Centers (NFSC), and other designated locations. Riders are picked up and taken to their employer or to a centralized location with access to several employers. At the end of the work day, the van returns to take riders back to their originating drop-off points. An Emergency Ride component is also available to assist riders if an emergency arises during the work day, and the rider needs to get home, to a medical facility, daycare or school to handle their emergency. When resources permit, riders can also arrange for service during mid-day to get to a NFSC to comply with Ohio Work First (OWF) benefits and assistance requirements, or to seek various types of OWF benefits and assistance.

Service Hours

The van pools operate on a fixed schedule through pre-arranged reservations. Services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays.

Customized Trip Plans

For all commutes, RTA Mobility Specialists determine the most efficient RTA route to get the individual to and from work taking into consideration the area and pedestrian amenities. Individualized trip plans describe in detail the bus or rail route, and/or WATP van service available.

Service to Interviews and Job Training Programs

Transportation to and from job training programs and interviews, including pre-hire testing, is provided on a space available basis. Reservations must be made 24 hours in advance. Transportation to interviews, like the WATP van service, must be to destinations, or at times, when regular RTA bus and rail services are unavailable.
